Love Springs Eternal at FSO (and did we remind you WE'RE HIRING?)

"If you have an idea, share your idea! Look to grow with the company! Do not be afraid to take the leaps necessary to help this organization grow—it will in turn help you grow as well."

Good Morning Folks,

I hope you had a great great holiday weekend. What a beautiful spring weekend :)

Lots of great things are happening as we welcome the longer and warmer days of spring into FSO.

We have worked together to build great momentum and are on the way to bigger and better things. Better infrastructure leading to better results, client satisfaction and more business opportunities. This all happened because of you – because each one of you care deeply about FSO and our customers.  Your professionalism, dedication and commitment are an inspiration to me and I have shared this feedback with many of you, both at HQ and in the field.

The most important thing about our business is our people (YOU). We believe the winning recipe to ensure that our clients are WOW!ed and love FSO, is to hire brilliant people, train & empower them, and recognize & reward them. And, last week was a great example of our commitment to this! We re-launched the monthly CHO Club (and it was an awesome event) and will have our first MIT management training session this Tuesday that will be led by Me! My sincerest congratulations and THANK YOU to everyone who was recognized....we are counting on our employees and YOU made a difference! Great job.

I am a strong believer in the power of positive energy. I have seen both in my personal and professional life that you can achieve great success and overcome adversity by finding positive aspect in every situation. As we head into the week, I ask each of you to take a moment to self reflect. Does your team know about all of the GREAT things that are happening at FSO? Do they know about all of the opportunities that are available for them to feel how valued they are to me and the entire ELT? Are you taking the time to talk and listen to your team? Are you training your team? Are you making it PERSONAL? Are you sharing this feedback with your director, the PSTeam, the ELT?

We are here for you...you have tons of support. Strong communications team - this is the key to our success!  FSO is a company that is all about coming up with the best possible solution to best support our clients. If you have an idea, share your idea! Look to grow with the company! Do not be afraid to take the leaps necessary to help this organization grow—it will in turn help you grow as well.

Inspire ME Friday: Motivating Our Best Employees

"Change is good. You go first."

Knowing how to motivate your employees will allow you to build a team that is as passionate about success as you are.

Good Friday Folks,

Dave Lavinsky is on fire again in the GrowThink Newsletter with a spot-on piece about motivating employees. He writes:

Entrepreneurs must have many skills. They must be able to spot opportunities. They must be able to create plans to seize those opportunities. And they must execute on those plans.

And, for most opportunities, and clearly for those opportunities that are really big, execution involves hiring and managing employees. Because no single entrepreneur can do everything themselves.

But you just can't have any employees. Companies that succeed have employees that are highly motivated.

So how do you ensure that your employees are motivated to succeed?

Clearly, giving them fair salaries helps. And clearly, stock options that allow employees to benefit when the company benefits are good practice.

But, there is an even better way. In fact, authors Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton in their book, The Carrot Principle, found a better way.

Where did they come up with this better way? Well, they conducted a study involving 200,000 people over a ten-year period.

Importantly, their study showed that the key characteristic of the most successful entrepreneurial managers is that they provide their employees with frequent and effective recognition.

That's right, significantly better business results were realized when managers offered recognition in the form of constructive praise and meaningful rewards (typically non-monetary).

The authors found that recognition is most effective when it is:

==> Positive (don't mention any negatives when giving praise)
==> Immediate (comes soon after the job well done)
==> Close (presented to employee(s) with their peers in attendance)
==> Specific (precisely recognizes why the task/job they performed merited recognition)
==> Shared (allows employee's peers to also comment during the recognition presentation)

Carrots are needed to motivate employees. But what I found most interesting about the author's findings was that recognition is more effective than monetary rewards. This is a critical finding for all managers, and particularly entrepreneurial managers who typically operate in cash-restrained environments.

Knowing how to motivate your employees will allow you to build a team that is as passionate about success as you are. And this will ultimately lead to your company achieving its goals. So, while it may not seem like a mission-critical focus today, it's definitely worth your time and effort. So don't delay...
Don't forget to checkout 4 Ways of Choosing Happiness from Within... and have a great weekend and enjoy a long awaited taste of spring.

Love Life!

Inspire ME Friday: Happy International Day of Happiness!

“People think it’s going to be perfect as soon as this ‘thing’ happens, but no. It has a very short term effect. Don’t count on climate making you happier, either. A recent report found the state where residents feel most content is Alaska.

Good Morning Folks,

For the last two years, the United Nations has set aside March 20 as a time to recognize “the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings.”

The Today show explains:

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Here are 10 insights into happiness:

1. Relationships are crucial

If you had to name one key to happiness, it would be relationships, said Gretchen Rubin, author of “The Happiness Project” and the new book “Better Than Before.” That means romantic relationships, friendships, close ties with siblings and colleagues —any meaningful and deep bonds with people you like.

“If you’re thinking about how to be happier, thinking about how to deepen or broaden your relationships is probably a really good place to start,” Rubin said.

“We need to have enduring, intimate relationships. We need to be able to confide. We need to feel like we belong. We need to be able to get support and just as important for happiness, we need to be able to give support.”

2. Be around happy people

Relationships are particularly beneficial when they involve people who are joyful, Sanderson said.

“Happiness seems to be a bit contagious, so if you’re friends with somebody who is happy, it actually increases your own happiness,” she noted.

Sanderson said she’s not talking about Facebook friends, but being around people you care about and giving them your full attention. Don’t mistake texting or messaging on social media for having a meaningful conversation.

3. Your genes predetermine some of the happiness you feel

Research suggests about 50 percent of happiness is hardwired; 10-20 percent is determined by life circumstances, such as age, health, and income; while the rest is very much a reflection of your conscious thoughts and actions, Rubin said.

People for whom happiness does not come very naturally should take more deliberate steps toward being happier, Sanderson noted. (See tip No. 7)

4. Focus on being happier rather than happy

It’s hard to define happiness. For some people it may mean a feeling of euphoria or overwhelming joy, for others it’s more about peace and contentment. Whatever your definition, find ways to have more of it in your life.

“Think about, ‘What could I do that would make me happier?’ and don’t worry about achieving happiness, which can sound like this very abstract finish line. What does that look like? How would you get there?” Rubin advised.

5. Money isn’t everything but…

The link between money and happiness is not very strong for people who live above the poverty line, Sanderson said. One study found that once you make $75,000 a year, money doesn’t have much of an effect on your contentment.

Another examined the well-being of very wealthy Americans and found they were indeed happier than ordinary people, but not by much. The authors noted that although “money may aid happiness, it certainly is no guarantee of happiness.”

Still, Rubin pointed out healthy finances do play a role.

“The thing about money is that it doesn’t necessarily buy happiness, but it can buy many things that contribute greatly to happiness. It’s how you’re spending it,” she said.

6. Experiences are better than possessions, except…

You’ve probably heard that spending money on experiences, like a wine tasting tour or tickets to a Broadway show, boosts happiness more than buying possessions, like jewelry or a new iPhone.

One study found spending on experiences boosted the “feeling of being alive.” Another discovered that purchases boosted happiness only when people spent money on cars or leisure.

But Rubin said it’s not as simple as saying possessions don’t matter.

“Is a dog an experience or a possession? Is a bicycle an experience or a possession? Is a dining room table that means you can have people over for dinner an experience or a possession?” she asked. “Some people care deeply and get enormous satisfaction from possessions.”

7. Small things can make you happy

Sanderson suggested these instant mood lifters:

  • Take a walk outside
  • Read a book that you love
  • Exercise to trigger the release of endorphins, your body’s feel-good chemicals
  • Get enough sleep
  • Take a broader view: Parents often report low levels of joy on a day-to-day basis, for example, but find parenting very meaningful when they consider the overall impact of kids on their lives, Sanderson said.

8. Things you think will make you happy often don’t

Don’t fall for the trap of thinking “I will be happy when…” – “I get married” or “I get a promotion” or “I retire.”

“People think it’s going to be perfect as soon as this ‘thing’ happens, but no. It has a very short term effect,” Sanderson said. “One of the challenges is that we just adapt to it.”

Don’t count on climate making you happier, either, she noted. Living in California might sound more blissful than moving to North Dakota, but you eventually adjust to whatever climate you’re in. A recent report found the state where residents feel most content is Alaska.

9. Happiness increases with age

It turns out youth doesn’t necessarily translate into bliss.

“When you’re older, you don’t waste time on things that aren’t important to you… you focus on the things that really fulfill you,” Rubin said.

“A lot of things, by the time you’re older, have worked themselves out. You’ve made your peace with who you are.”

10. Know yourself

Self-knowledge is crucial to happiness, Rubin said. So if you’re not a morning person, but decide to get up early each day to squeeze in a workout, you’ll be miserable.

“We’re happy when our life reflects our nature, our values, our interests. The more you know yourself, the more you can make decisions that are going to help you bring your life into harmony with what’s true about you,” she noted.

Thanks to @gretchenrubin and Catherine Sanderson and Today.com for offering10 basic rules for a happier life.

I'm not sure after this winter I agree with "Don’t count on climate making you happier, either, she noted. Living in California might sound more blissful than moving to North Dakota, but you eventually adjust to whatever climate you’re in. A recent report found the state where residents feel most content is Alaska."

With that in mind, have a Spring-filled weekend with love and happiness all around.

And now one more time, the song that never gets old with 609 million YouTube views (no wonder the Gaye family is listening)....

Have a GREAT WEEKEND!

“We need to believe in the impossible and remove the improbable” ~~Oscar Wilde

"Permanent happiness comes from you choosing to be permanently happy. When you choose happiness, then you attract all the happy things as well. The happy things are the icing on the cake, but the cake is happiness" ~~Rhonda Byrne

Good Morning Folks,

Whether it is health, money, a loving relationship, material things, accomplishments, a job, or anything at all, the desire for happiness is the bottom line of all of them. But remember that happiness is a state inside of us, and something on the outside can only bring fleeting happiness, because material things are impermanent.

Regardless of your looks, skills or intelligence, or what struggles you have had in your life --  if you don’t have a good attitude, if you don’t believe that happiness is a “choice”, if you don’t believe you can accomplish great things then you will never achieve success.

Look around you. You work for a HAPPY company, with a Chief HAPPINESS Officer at the helm - who truly wants you to be happy, who gives you all the tools, opportunities and support to grow and be happy at what you do. You know why?

Unhappy people, negative people, uncooperative people, complaining people just attract more unhappiness, negativity and difficulty into their lives. Those people can never truly be PERSONAL, PASSIONATE and PRODUCTIVE.

But... on the FSO side of the coin... happy employees are contagious. Happy employees create a great work environment, and happy employees create more opportunity.

Our Sales, Marketing, and Operations teams are firing on all cylinders! We have the competition on their heels, with more and more of their clients taking a serious look at FSO and deciding that we are the only real choice when it comes to outsourcing.

The FSO Train is screaming down the track, exceeding our client’s expectations and delivering on our promise to love and nurture our most valuable asset, our employees!

==>  FSO is the Fastest growing outsourcer in the Industry
==>  FSO is the displacing its competitors every day
==>  FSO is the best place to work in the industry
==>  FSO is providing thousands a chance to reach their goals
==>  FSO is the most sought out company in the industry to work

What a great thing to say about your job!

I talk to a lot of prospects that have our competitors currently. EVERY time I speak with them I get a bit nauseas because they tell me they are marginally happy, that they do not get any ideas from the current provider, that the staff onsite isn’t happy, that the management from the current company has never been to the site or met with them, that the local manager never provides reports, and the list goes on. UGH! I have seen the great work we do on-site and I am a true believer that (re)Imagine is our differentiator.

Every time we (re)Imagine we win! Do not underestimate the impact that wiping off finger prints on a glass door can have. Do not underestimate the impact of your smile on a customer. Little things like straightening up an unsightly lobby, helping to set up a conference room when it is not our service agreement, it is the kind words and great attitude and providing ideas and recommendations for improvements.

Your career and your growth is top of mind for me every single moment of the day. We have excitement in our company and I want you all to be excited.

YOU are always appreciated for what YOU do, being who YOU are and the role YOU play in the company. Without YOU there could be no FSO.

Set your goals and expectations high but more importantly, achieve them.

Have a great day and thanks for being a part of our amazing journey.

Inspire ME Friday: Dee's Shining Moment

"Very inspiring message. I’ve had the pleasure of working with you for over ten years and I know I speak for myself and many, many others; we are incredibly proud of you and love watching your continued success! You are proof that referrals positively impact our company everyday."

    Good Morning Folks,

Every Friday I share an internal communique from one of our esteemed employees. Last week Michael, currently a Business Operations Manager and the newly elected President of our Future Leaders Program had the microphone and blew us away

Today I introduce you to the "Joe Biden" of the Future Leaders Program, Demetrius, who is the proud Business Operations Manager at Young and Rubicam. And now direct from the heart and mind of the recently appointed Vice President of the Future Leaders Program, I turn it over to you, "Dee" .....
I write to you all today about leadership, and a few lessons that I carry with me daily. As a leader you must have self-confidence. You must know when to listen, when to talk and how to make quick decisions that will better the employee and client experience. There are different styles of leadership and you have to find the one that is right for you. The important thing is to be yourself and be comfortable leading. You have to be authentic in the way you engage with other people and the way you use your authority. People must learn to trust you. Understanding how you can have the most positive impact and influence on others is crucial. Most importantly, trust your instinct, and know you will always have support.
I’m a big believer in the power of the subconscious to steer us to the right decisions. A good leader will put a lot of effort into building the right team around him or her. You need people you trust, who are on your side, who respectfully challenge you, who are honest with you, and whose judgment you respect. You need to be able to depend on their support when the going gets tough. This is how we pay it forward folks, it’s an ‘each one – teach one mentality’. It’s a differentiator and what makes us better that the rest (and trust me we ARE!).
The FLP was established with the sole purpose of spotting talent and identifying those who have “it”.  The FLP is something that’s near and dear to my heart, and I thank Mitch for believing in and supporting this program as the great leader he is for all of us.  It is the very same program that put me in the position I’m in today. I was able to meet some amazing people and also acquire great skills in the process- I cannot wait to continue on growing and developing into a better leader every day. The (re) imagined FLP will be unmatched in our industry. As Shawn mentioned at our first Board meeting, this is our “shining moment."
Do you have “it”?  We believe you do!  It won’t easy and it will take lots of hard work and dedication. But, if you’re able to push through – you too can become like that kid from Queens who dreamt big, but achieved bigger. :)
Adds a colleague, "You were one of the first people I met when I joined FSO in 2013. You took me around Y&R, told me about the transformations not only at Y&R, but your own transformations.. The growth you experienced at FSO- from 'humble' beginnings to your current status.  You're living proof that the FLP works for those who crave growth, and your message is proof that you possess the qualities of a strong leader."

Well, Dee, this is YOUR shinning moment. Demetrius continues to impress, shine and grow in his role with FSO. BRAVO SIR.. well done, well written and more. You are a credit to all the exciting programs, plans, actions and strategies taking place at FSO. We are grateful to have you.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the first taste of spring whether admiring the Cherry Blossoms in DC or staring at the sidewalk to observe the last drop of snow melt and actually be smiling and happy to see litter and dirt again.

    Love Life!

    Mitchell D. Weiner
