Shout Out Wednesday: The Kudos; Thanks; Admiration; Praise and General Good Will Continue to Flow Our Way

"We had less than a month to do what the Chairman had been planning for a year…I know I was driving many of you nuts with my detail obsessing…we had a limited budget….and a space that can be challenging…… and it all didn’t just work … IT ROCKED! I was very proud – we have the best outsourced team in the industry!!!!!

Good Morning Folks,

In delivering our Onsite Outsourcing Services, our people are the driving force in making the difference– it’s that twinkle in the eye, that skip in the step, that fire in the belly that makes our people different from any of our competitors .

Our Company Culture (PERSONAL, PASSIONATE AND PRODUCTIVE) ensures our staff provides a better service experience to our clients and in turn, we provide a warm and highly inspirational environment for our valued employees.

Here are some of the amazing things our clients are saying about our motivated, team-oriented, passionate people. According to our clients, our employees raised the bar. Then jumped over it.

Capco 5th & 6th Kudo this month!
"I am a Consultant in Capco's Capital Markets department.  Carl (copied) and I just finished a proposal to Morgan Stanley, which is due tomorrow, and Andrew Brown graciously agreed to help us print and bind six copies of the large Powerpoint deck.  I understand he stayed late (he finished at 7:20), so I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciated all of his assistance.  Without him, Carl and I would have been here much. much later! Andrew e is one of the most polite people I've ever met and It's a real pleasure interacting with him every day."

"Jonathan - Thank you so much again for your help! We really appreciate it!
You are the best!!

Nelson, NBC Universal
*He is very pleased with the Print Services department.
*Since my arrival the improvement has been drastically noticed.
*Andrew and Issac finally have a leader that can help them achieve their daily duties and goals.
*Every day that goes by a new responsibility gets added to my list. With each day that passes the confident level rises higher and higher among all users and upper management.
*He also stated that I was a super star and that in two weeks I have accomplished wonders.
*Also today I was granted full Administrator privileges for all units and that we are headed for big things. Also Michael stated that everything is running smoothly.

Maritza / Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP

Maritza, I will miss you.  I am so glad I had the chance to work more closely with you over these last few years.  You are so dedicated and responsible about everything you do.  More than being a great FSO manager, you are an indispensable member of the Cahill team. I know that you an Gloria will keep everything humming and Cahill is so lucky to have both of you. I hope you get to enjoy your retirement at some time in the future with you children and grandchildren. I’m sure I will continue to get the “news” on what’s happening at Cahill but please don’t hesitate to call me if you ever need anything and certainly you must contact me if you are ever out in the Santa Fe area~~ Regina /Director of Office Service/Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP

Demetrius, Y&R

"Dee continues to do a great job for us and to always go the extra mile.  I have seen him literally manning almost every FSO position here this week. Apparently he was a little short staffed but he rose to the occasion and made sure all bases were covered. I’m sure he put in extra non-billable hours too and he never ever complains. Make sure he feels loved. Thanks and have a good weekend." ~~ SVP, Director of Facilities Management/Young & Rubicam Group

Shalaine Adams, Corporate Trainer, Chicago.
"I am writing you this letter to thank you for the orientation you gave us this past week. I do agree with the personal, passionate, productive approach to business because that allows artists like me to be themselves when it comes to helping people out in business. When I mentioned the route I was referring to what us artists love to do. I love to be creative and with that I influence and inspire people and that's what keeps me going. Having someone smile at you and making that person happy brings me joy. So applying that to customer service, being personal, passionate, and productive is just me being loyal to the route of what I love. Because we all have the same goal in life and that goal is happiness." ~~ Nicolas

Lindsay Abken, FSO Marketing Associate
You’re awesome! Thanks you so much for all the work and efforts today! You stayed late and supported the team and we could not have done it without you! Thank you very much! You’re efforts do not go unnoticed!

Ralphy, Liquidnet
Just thought you should know Ralphy has been very present on his floor and attentive to everyone. He’s been coming around a lot and vacuuming offices. He also helped me change compliance posters on the floor. He’s been doing great. Just a kudo for him.~~ MAYA /GLOBAL TALENT ENGAGEMENT/ LIQUIDNET

Sam, Liquidnet
"As you know, Sam has some administrative duties assigned to her job function as Liquidnet’s receptionist. Sam pre-approves invoices and assigns the charges to the correct cost center before they ever come across my desk. She kept digging and digging, even calling the shipping company for clues as to what this odd charge was and it was indeed a shipper they used but billed in error. Although only a small amount, Sam stuck with it to get us the credit for the chargeIt is a pleasure to have Sam working here. She always has our best interest at the forefront of everything she does."~~ Catherine

Thanks fort taking the time to write to me about these gifted employees. I am always eager to hear more about how we are doing.

Our honest love and care for the hourly employee is truly “in our hearts” and while competitors have tried to replicate that passion, it can’t be faked.  Our leaders are constantly driven to think of ways to make your Employee Experience even BETTER.

THANK YOU for all of your support and hard work…Keep on shining! WE really appreciate it!

Cheers FSO USA!!!!

Ted Tuesday: The Incomparable Seth Godin "Tribes We Lead"

Mass marketing, according to Seth Godin, requires average ideas. Because to sell in volume, you must cater to the average consumer.
But what if you what to be remarkable?

Good Morning Folks,

In this 2009 presentation with over 1.5 million views, the legendary Seth Godin talks about the merits of not just a great idea, but how to find the right people to help that message spread. It's easy to look online and find every social media pundit blogging or tweeting about community management and building a strong brand evangelist platform, but many get it wrong. What we're looking to do is to build tribes of like-minded people.

Seth Godin argues the Internet has ended mass marketing and revived a human social unit from the distant past: tribes. Founded on shared ideas and values, tribes give ordinary people the power to lead and make big change. He urges us to do so.

Godin has some really good news for you. With the Internet, you can share your product or idea without targeting the masses. Instead, you can build your own tribe.

"Seth Godin may be the ultimate entrepreneur for the Information Age," Mary Kuntz wrote in Business Week nearly a decade ago. "Instead of widgets or car parts, he specializes in ideas -- usually, but not always, his own." In fact, he's as focused on spreading ideas as he is on the ideas themselves.

After working as a software brand manager in the mid-1980s, Godin started Yoyodyne, one of the first Internet-based direct-marketing firms, with the notion that companies needed to rethink how they reached customers. His efforts caught the attention of Yahoo!, which bought the company in 1998 and kept Godin on as a vice president of permission marketing. Godin has produced several critically acclaimed and attention-grabbing books, including Permission Marketing, All Marketers Are Liars, and Purple Cow (which was distributed in a milk carton). In 2005, Godin founded Squidoo.com, a Web site where users can share links and information about an idea or topic important to them.

Blogs Samantha:
Looking back on Seth Godin’s speech, I remember feeling very inspired. He made me want to get up and do something, change something, become something. It sounded perfectly clear once he spoke it, why hadn’t I seen it before? There are a lot of different things we can do for our tribes, groups that can be based on many different things. We could choose each other based on a common interest, favorite something or a goal we all want to achieve.
I personally don’t know what I would want to be grouped for. To be honest, I feel like I’m riding a Mary-go-round, always doing the same things everyday. I want to change that, but I’m not sure how. I don’t believe I’ve found my purpose yet. Maybe this project will help me find myself.
One of the things said during this TED talk was, “Tell a story. Make a Connection. Lead a group. Make a change.” Eventually that small group can grow into a big community, full of other people who can relate to you all because you have one interest in common."
Seth Godin is one of those individuals who really inspire change, this talk and his book are no difference and Seth Godin is probably one of the best examples of a tribe leader.

Connecting with your own tribe is such a powerful and clear call to action. Nobody explains the power of new marketing and new business thinking better than Seth:

Each of you can benefit from watching this. Something to share with your colleagues and friends! Please pass this along to others!

Let's be thankful for the Internet and Ted where we can be inspired by great keynotes that in the past were only accessible to lucky few (or hard working President's Club winners) at expensive conferences.

Speaking of inspiration, this morning is a morning to get fired up about and what we stand for. We have a new COO with Mr. Bomsi Billimoria, promotions abound like never before with Missy, Chelsea, Shalaine and our Chief of Staff and SVP, Corporate Strategy, Denise Ngeow is back today from maternity leave - a big welcome back to Denise.

We are a tribe at FSO and we are remarkable, not average. Personal, Passionate and Productive, and we get the job done to perfection every moment and every day.

To a bright and successful day!

Welcome Back Denise, And Celebrate Our Inc 500 Distinction For Third Consecutive Year!

"I am pleased to announce that our Senior Vice President of Strategy and Chief of Staff Denise Ngeow is back at headquarters from maternity leave this morning. On behalf of the Executive Leadership Team we welcome you home Scarlett's mom. :-)). We all missed you."

Good Morning Folks,

Starting a company from nothing but a white canvas and an idea is one of the most rewarding elements of business that an owner can realize. But ideas are only as good as the execution that becomes part of the core fabric of a company. In 2010, “FSO” was just a thought I had. It was my vision and passion, and I could not be more proud of how it has been brought to life.

I always say, strategy is the first part of the plan and in this early phase it is not about the people, rather it is about defining who you are and where you want to go. Understanding the competitive landscape and overcoming market barriers, combined with fire and excitement, is when your strategy is actualized. Only then can you think about YOUR TEAM - who will do it and how will they help achieve the goals. You need to FOCUS.

To support, help and drive our strategic POWER OF FOCUS, I am please to announce that our Senior Vice President of Strategy and Chief of Staff, Denise Ngeow, is back at headquarters from maternity leave this morning. On behalf of the Executive Leadership Team we welcome you home, Scarlett's mom. :-)). We all missed you.

I have been in constant contact with Denise and my niece during this time and Denise is up to speed on the needs, goals, expectations and great strategies we have upcoming.

Denise is always bringing me endless ideas with strategies that can be executed. We could not have exceeded our knowledge and results without her endless pursuit for perfection and achievement.

==> FSO Recognized by INC
For Third Consecutive Year

Lastly, I would like to take this moment to also announce an amazing award that we have just won. For a third consecutive year, FSO Onsite Outsourcing has been honored as one of Inc. Magazine’s Fastest Growing Companies in America! I cannot be more proud of our company and our people. This recognition reinforces the fact that the FSO Experience is truly being embraced from Coast to Coast. (scroll down)

To all our clients - Thank you for all you do. We will have more great information to share with you shortly that will continue to ensure that we hear you, support you, and will help you grow with us and support your companies’ and firms’ needs.

To our staff - rock it kids. I will continue to love my staff. Hug and kiss all and say THANKS. We are not perfect yet. But I will not sleep until we are.

We are a great team. We all believe in the POWER of FOCUS. Let’s be thankful for all we have and the great family we have created at FSO.

We should all be very excited about our future and the opportunities to bring our clients new ideas and new solutions that deliver sustainable results.

Thank you for what you do every day to make FSO GREAT!

Love Life!

Inspire ME Friday: Shalaine's Story

"Feel the Experience is not just marketing speak. It is all about what we are creating, a special moment, a memorable moment— a lasting impression of Service with a Smile. This is what our clients know they can count on when they meet someone from FSO – an Experience that is uniquely FSO."

Good Morning Folks,

Friday on MitchWeiner.com is the day when I share with the world one of the inspirational employee emails that is normally restricted for internal consumption.

Recently I announced the promotion of Shalaine Adams to the newly created position of Regional Manager, Delivering the Experience. In Shalaine’s new role, which relocated her from our headquarters in New York City to the Central Region, she is already working with all of our teams rolling out our brand Nationwide. Shalaine will lead and assist in training, her largest percent of time, specifically around the CLIENT and EMPLOYEE experience.

Upon her promotion Shalaine put some thoughts on paper for her colleagues. I have selected her email as the employee communication of the week to share with you today. This is from her heart and exemplifies the exceptional people onboard FSO, the passion they have and their commitment to our client's success. Here's Shalaine:
Hello & Good morning FSO, USA!! J What an awesome week it’s been!!! We’ve spoken a lot about Feeling The Experience, it’s something we want all of our clients to feel but, did you know this goes for YOU as well, because when you are feeling the experience you can then be inspired share it with others!
Your experience with FSO is important because you are Mitch’s heart! You see, life is made up of many experiences, all of which are there to help you grow & learn. Each experience helps shape you into the person you are meant to become!
I would like to take you on a journey with me, back to when I was a receptionist with the competitor. My experience was not a great one, my opinions didn’t matter, I didn’t have any opportunity to grow, I was stuck at a dead end job with nowhere to go. I knew there had to be something more out there for me, a place where I can grow and have an actual career. Fast forward to three years ago, joining the FSO family, believing in Mitch’s promise to have a shot at a career not just a job and now I am seeing my dreams come to fruition how exciting is that!!
The sky is the limit for you here at FSO; working hard never goes for naught.   I have had an awesome experience here at FSO, the Care, Love and Respect that Mitch has for US is like no other and it is such a blessing to feel that love & support everyday!
As I embark on my new journey as Regional Manager, Delivering the Experience; I am preparing to leave NY and will be heading to the Mid-West. I realize that I am truly not alone, I take all of my fond memories and experiences with me. From being a part of the amazing PS team, all of the support & love of my good friends at HQ, working with my sister Chelsea, creating Experience Greatness and meeting and training the best employees in the industry! I FEEL the difference and the true meaning of being a part something much bigger than myself! Words cannot express how excited I am, knowing that I will be touching the lives of our wonderful employees is something I take much pride in. You see, for me; it is Personal, making each moment & interaction count. Inspiring, motivating & empowering the field one employee at a time is an honor and I am so grateful to have this opportunity.
I am so excited and I look forward to lighting up the FSO nation. Looking forward to seeing many of you very soon!
Ok, I must admit .. I teared up reading Shalaine's email. What a beautiful message. All I had to do is give her a chance to fly and she did. Shalaine’s promotion is just one example of how FSO is changing the onsite outsourcing world and changing our employee's worlds!

We will miss Shalaine's positive influence in New York. But our company is national and she can help us be the best we can be at all times in all places. I am so proud and excited for her as she will bring to the field tremendous love, care, heart and ideas with deep experience to make our business grow and support all of our clients and employees in FULLFILLING DREAMS and AMBITIONS.

I shared an AWESOME quote my LinkedIn page this week: "Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words." I thought this is just perfect for what we stand for at FSO. Respect, Integrity, Transparency, and Trust – The FSO Difference.

The single most  important thing about our culture is, it never wears off.  It doesn’t go away. It’s there every day, and it has a huge impact on everything that matters to every business we serve.

We have the best people in the industry from our mail rooms, front of house, office services, Experience Directors, Regional Directors, Future Leaders and everyone in HQ, to our Executive Leadership Team, marketing, finance, operations, sales and people solutions. There are so many people willing to help our employees at FSO that they can learn from, to make them better in their careers.

For our clients, our commitment to exceeding your expectations, ensuring that every single teammate is the best trained and best prepared employee they can be is what sets us apart!

As Shalaine would say, "Have a great day filled with purpose & love; make each moment count!! LET’S ROCK IT!!!"

Have a GREAT weekend!

Throwback Thursday: Selling Like A Mad Man: Being Don Draper

"You can't sell something you don't believe in yourself, and you can't sell it to someone who doesn't buy into your process. You have to want it to get it, and you have to have absolute confidence in what you're pitching."

Good Morning Folks,

Mad Men's Don Draper is a "get its, get it". Thanks to Oren Klaff's brilliant book, Pitch Anything, I am now a bigger fan. If you have not yet read Pitch Anything, I highly recommend you do so.

What follows, inspired by Pitch Anything, is an excellent illustration of not only how to play to win, but how to avoid the “Slow No”.  Sales people tend to forget that one of the most important attributes to their trade is not to sell, but to first qualify and disqualify prospects. Not everyone is meant to be a fit. Listening, understanding, and then eventually selling are the keys to a mutually rewarding customer partnership.

As a fan of Mad Men, I realize Don Draper’s style is harsh, but if you are not bold and willing to have a deliberate “adult conversation” with your prospects and customers, then you are wasting precious time that should be directed toward believers.

==> The traits that make Don Draper successful include:
  • An insatiable desire to win.
  • Solid business acumen.
  • Ability to take action.
  • A rare ability to see what others will never see.
I have met many "Don Drapers" in my career. Companies with ten to twenty salespeople are lucky if they have one on their sales team.

I thought I'd ask other top sales executives I know what they think are the top qualities one should look for when interviewing candidates for a sales position. Here they told me in no particular order.
  • Aptitude: The one not often mentioned  is aptitude. After all we all want someone who can understand the product mix. Their aptitude needs also to extend to comprehending the various types of businesses/situations your customers are in, or how else will they be able to properly uncover needs.
  • Listening: God created us with 2 ears and one mouth, to listen with as much as we talk. Qualifying and disqualifying the client are important. As a sales rep, the top priority is get more possible background situation of customer at very beginning, so he who is not good at listening and only preaches the specs, the company and/or  the price to a potential customer mostly will end their chances right there. Because, we are not led in our selling by selling "products and services" but more around the experience of what we offer, understanding the client and what story they are telling to their clients. Then how we can help them with that specifically.
  • Determination: You can't sell something you don't believe in yourself, and you can't sell it to someone who doesn't buy into your process. You have to want it to get it, and you have to have absolute confidence in what you're pitching. Your attitude has to be "We know what we offer is top shelf, and if you can't see that, then it's you that's missing out" rather than getting desperate for a sale---clients can smell that from a mile away. The successful sales person takes the word no as the beginning of the sales cycle and is even more determined each time they hit an obstacle
  • Resilient: A successful professional sales person can only have success if they are resilient. There are far more No's than Yes's out there. Every time you don't get the sale, you have to keep the positive attitude to move on.
  • Cultural Fit: As a first step, I'm always looking for fit rather than skill set. Can they thrive in an environment like ours… high activity and direct feedback? You can train an employee to have the desired/necessary skill set - you can not train an employee to fit into the culture of your organization.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: I look for someone who will take ownership. I look for a "fit as well" in my last hire I did this and it has been a great success. Passion.
  • Adaptability: In today's competitive environment of rapid innovation, flexibility is essential. Aptitude and attitude are also key trait
  • Likeable: What comes to mind is someone who is "likable". Likeable is someone who relates, listens, identifies needs and can speak in the language of the client. Someone who is funny and has a great spirit
Don Draper had those qualities suggested as well. He looked the part and you could trust that.

There was always something in his eyes-- when he got inspired you could feel that and you knew you were on good hands no matter what he was selling.

Some of those traits are hard to discover in interviews. You must get the interviewee to tell stories. You can't determine that just by asking them to sell you a pen. Because, in sales, if you have all of the other qualities but can't listen, can't understand the customers pains before running your mouth, you will always put your foot in it.

Here are a few clips of Don Draper in action. Have a look at magical works of wisdom from the godfather of closing:

==> Don Draper Sales Pitch

==> Don Draper wants: All of it

==> Position Yourself. Nothing Is Free.

==> Mad Men - Jantzen Meeting

I love these clips. They really do work in a Sun Tzu "Art of War" kind of shorthand for summing up the essence of Don Draper.

Don is confident in his ability, vision, and capacity. Professionally, Don is strictly take-no-prisoners. He can clearly see where his clients need to go and how he will get them there. Don is a storyteller.

Thanks to Chris Young Founder and Thought Leader, The Rainmaker Group, Inc for inspiring this post with his. Says Chris: "The Rainmaker Group uses an advanced "Moneyball Approach" to help Clients select "wolf class" salespeople that scare the hell out of the competition." Now that's exactly what Don Draper would say if he was pitching Chris' business. lol

I want take this opportunity to thank you for what you do every day to make FSO GREAT!

If know of someone who would enjoy working for or with FSO please do not keep us a secret.

Have a Personal, Passionate & Productive Day!
