Inspire ME Friday: On Halloween and Always— Don't Be Scared of Change

Photo: Norkin via Facebook

"Incumbent leaders in one era rarely are the leaders in the next era. Innovation occurs at the edge of an industry. Consequently, incumbents usually aren’t the first to focus on disruptive changes. They tend to focus on their existing competitors and incumbents are at risk of becoming victims of their own success." ~~John Sculley

Good Morning Folks,

The scariest day of the year isn't today— Halloween.

It's whatever day you're afraid to embrace change... to try new things.

Business is moving at Internet speed. According to former Apple CEO John Scully in his new book "Moonshot!: Game-Changing Strategies to Build Billion-Dollar Businesses" —  "A new breed of entrepreneurs has emerged who are putting customers first. We’re seeing it in all industries from transportation (Uber) to accommodations (Airbnb) to web content (Pinterest). Entrepreneurs at these companies are raising the bar in customer-experience businesses with the incredibly ambitious goal of being 10x better than any service previously available. This new breed of entrepreneurs, the “adaptive innovators”, are building the next generation of billion-dollar businesses."

Scully argues, "Here’s why “adapt” is such a power word. Incumbent leaders in one era rarely are the leaders in the next era. Innovation occurs at the edge of an industry. Consequently, incumbents usually aren’t the first to focus on disruptive changes. They tend to focus on their existing competitors and incumbents are at risk of becoming victims of their own success. They become complacent because on the metrics they measure success they appear to be doing well. That is, until everything quickly changes."

Everything is changing and those who refuse to change will be left behind.

That's why my selection for this week's inspiring internal communique to share was penned by Capco Experience Manager, Jenna Solis. We get more kudos from Capco per employee than any other client so hats off to Jenna and over to you:
Isn't it great to wake up to a day that you've never seen or experienced before? Really think about.... Each day we are blessed to breathe air into our lungs; have full activity of our brain and limbs.
Yet I dare to ask....are we truly working at our full potential.
Be encouraged FSO family. It's time to do a "New Thing".
How many of us can remember a time where you've felt over worked and under appreciated? I'd like to share my story to show you just how GREAT of an opportunity Mitch has put before us. I was employed by a company that monitored your workload but never appreciated your work; they cut me a check every two weeks but never really knew my worth.
The problem was I had an Above & Beyond attitude, and a desire to excel that wasn't being nurtured. So what was one to do?  Bask in the mundane? Or search for a "New Thing"? Thankfully, a great friend thought it not robbery to share her current career path. She informed me that she supported an outstanding group of individuals who were dedicated and pumped about a vision that had been laid out by their phenomenal President & CEO Mitch Weiner.
Well naturally, I needed to know where and when I could sign up. :) Upon coming into FSO it immediately clicked that this was truly going to be one of the best decisions I've ever made.
I remember being apart of my first FSO event. It was an Award Recognition Night. Man oh man! I could feel the positive energy in my bones. I wanted to run around the room after being inspired by many of you.
I remember asking myself "Jenna, where do you fit within this company?
How many of you have asked or ask yourselves that very question?
FSO I'm just as FIRED UP as day one because I'm holding myself accountable for my success and those around me. The CAPCO team and I (Woop Woop) are dedicated to being instrumental in the success of the FSO brand. Let me tell you they're no big I's and little U's in a team. So it's important that everyone's voice is heard. Thankfully, Mitch and our leadership team have continued to develop and implement platforms for us to share our thoughts and feedback.
Are we utilizing these tools?
So here's a proposed challenge to you All! ELT's, Directors, Managers & Associates . Lead the Change. Identify where you fit in within the FSO vision. We all have something dynamic to bring to the FSO experience. For some, it may be ideas on taking Hospitality & White glove service to the next level; for others it may be a new approach on an already defined idea. Whatever it is, make it your "New Thing"!!!!
If we want Mitch's vision to shine brighter than what we could have ever imagined, we've got to dig deeper! Do we see 2020 clearly or are we squinting Let's get to work !!!!!! Managers, if you're not at your sites having team huddles, promoting FLP and nurturing your teams success...it's time to do a "New Thing". FSO Nation if we aren't making what we do each day apart of our daily conversations it's time to do a "New Thing". If we are allowing the competition to even make an appointment with a potential client, it's time to do  a... NEW THING!!!!!
Our competitors customers live halloween horror stories every day because, unlike FSO, they are always scared to try new things. And that's why every one of the hundreds of big brand customers we've acquired in the past four years USED to be theirs.

I know we have a tremendous amount of talent at FSO and when we get together to figure out a problem we come up with some amazing innovative ideas that drives us forward in success.

I ask my teams:  The next time you’re working with your teams and you ask “what did you do today to ensure the client Feels the Experience?”

If you get blank faces staring back at you, we will need to show them what small things they can do each time to enhance the service experience. How do you enhance repro jobs, mail, conference bookings/ setups, facility request or assisting with Hoteling every time? Talk to the client and ask questions. Often they will let you know what can be done to help them.

Focus on the items not being requested. Are you shipping this job out today? If you have enough information you can provide a box, labels, pouch and tape when you deliver the job. Have project delivered to their hotel? Or suggests you ship it to the destination. Call and follow up on the project or job. It takes less than 30 seconds to call or swing by and just ask is everything done to their satisfaction and is there anything else we can do for you? Leave a VM.  Most often they will say no, they don’t need anything else, but the small jester of asking gets you a lot of client love.

Then reflect on the FSO career path:

Cheryl | A former mail clerk at groupm - now the Portfolio Manager to Durst
Glenda | A former internal messenger for VNO - now the Division Administrator
David | A former Lead at Sage - now the Portfolio Manager for Brookfield +
Mario | A former Supervisor at Conde - now the Portfolio Manager for VNO +

What an amazing place FSO is. An organization build on helping others.

We help them - let me help you.

You have all reached a certain level of success and growth... why stop there?

You each have strength and skills that have merited your current roles within the division, within FSO. Let's reach HIGHER!

Let's self motivate. Let's increase ourselves. Let's GROW!

Because when we grow, our clients grow too.

I hope everyone has a  Fantastic weekend!

Open Your Arms to Change, But Don’t Let Go of Your Values.

"Of the many problems we face today, some are natural calamities and must be accepted and faced with equanimity. Others, however, are of our own making, created by misunderstanding, and can be corrected. One such type arises from the conflict of ideologies, political or religious, when people fight each other for petty ends, losing sight of the basic humanity that binds us all together as a single human family. Often we cannot overcome our problems because we either do not know the cause or, if we understand it, do not have the means to remove it. This is not the case, for example, with the nuclear threat."~ Dalai Lama

Good Morning Folks,

Here is an extra dose of inspiration and fruit for thought as the harvest season, falling colored leaves and crisp fall air remind us that change is the only certainty in life.

At the turn of this century, the Dalai Lama issued the following eighteen rules for living.

Rule 1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

Rule 2. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson

Rule 3. Follow the three Rs: 1. Respect for self 2. Respect for others 3. Responsibility for all your actions.

Rule 4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

Rule 5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

Rule 6. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

Rule 7. When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

Rule 8. Spend some time alone every day.

Rule 9. Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.

Rule 10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Rule 11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.

Rule 12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.

Rule 13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.

Rule 14. Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality.

Rule 15. Be gentle with the earth.

Rule 16. Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.

Rule 17. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.

Rule 18. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

Thanks to Body Mind Soul Spirit for this selection and to you for listening. Please don't confuse this with a similar looking chain email which is a hoax that is pretty evident by the points being made about cooking and all kinds of things the Dalai Lama would never discuss.

And if you'd like to turn those outsourcing frowns to smiles, talk to us, witness us. We'll   take you on a tour of client sites and and let you taste the FSO experience first-hand where you'll see how different life has become for some of the best known-brands in the world.

Call me personally at 212-204-1193.

Feel the FSO Experience - and ensure everyone around you does too.

Here's to a wonderful week!

Love Life!

Today The Kudos Are For Me: "Today is going to be an AWESOME day, today."

"No matter what happens today, I will make a difference, in whatever I do."

Good Morning Folks,

Every Wednesday I like to share letters we get from clients discussing the above and beyond service our employees are providing them.

Past editions of those can be found here (scroll back) and will continue next week.

Instead, here is an email shout out that one our employees sent to me:

Good morning and happy Wednesday Mitch

I love it. LOVE, CARE, INSPIRATION and SPIRITUAL SUPPORT. That's so true and it speaks to why I get up every morning, with hope and expectation. Today is going to be an AWESOME day, today.

No matter what happens today, I will make a difference, in whatever I do.

So then I am thinking and it came to me in a flash NCIS, a favorite TV program of mine and now I won't forget, FSO- LCIS. LOVE, CARE, INSPIRATION and SPIRITUAL SUPPORT .

Thank you so much Mitch, for your LOVE, CARE, INSPIRATION and SPIRITUAL SUPPORT. I truly appreciate you and what you are doing for us. Keep up the great work, I am working with you, on this journey and adventure, beyond 2020.’
~~ Christian

If this sounds incredible and impressive to the forgotten hourly employees stuck in dead-end jobs elsewhere, and the kind of career path and commitment you would like to be assured in return for your investment working hard every day, please send your resume to Kshepherd (at) fso-outsourcing.com.

We believe people make or break the success of an organization. FSO hires for character, desire and attitude and then takes better care of that individual than one could ever imagine. We take care of our people and in turn, they take care of you.

I will always be that guy in the space who cares enough to take care of the hourly employee from the middle manager down. Big companies are too big to care – to teach these employees, to embrace them, to help them create lasting careers.

And that's not only what makes FSO different, it makes us BETTER.

Thanks fort taking the time to write to me about our gifted employees. I am always eager to hear more about how we are doing an d look forward to sharing the mail next Wednesday.

Have a GREAT day as I look forward to seeing all of you soon.

Ted Tuesday: Alessandro Acquisti: What will a future without secrets look like?

"Alessandro has managed to scare the shit out of me less than 5 minutes into the TED Talk. He manages line between public and private has blurred in the past decade, both online and in real life, and Alessandro Acquisti is here to explain what this means and why it matters."

Good Morning Folks,

From the hacked celebrity nudes to your teens suddenly reappearing and very public, private Snap Chats, to all of the NSA issues coming to light especially that a 20-something security contractor can read anything you write and even impersonate you to a tee, let’s be real, privacy is this decades biggest issue.

From feeling uneasy that companies were selling your info to spam mailers, to feeling uneasy that these companies tracked data on you to better serve you ads to Knowing that the US Government had a comprehensive spy network setup to spy on its own people. It’s safe to say we’ve been hit with wave after wave of e-privacy concerns.

Any  personal information can become sensitive information. One in three subjects can be found based on a random photo from a webcam. Think about that for a second. One third of us, can be positively identified and prosecuted or persecuted based on ONE single photo. This positive identification takes minutes, which is even scarier.

Alessandro has managed to scare the shit out of me less than 5 minutes into the TED Talk. However, Alessandro makes these things seem very simple and easy to do. Which makes the threat even more real. We assume the government has this info to make us safer. But if it’s easy to do, then bad people can do it too.

The scary part about this Alessandro brings up is that we really don’t have clear sufficient policies that can control the vast amount of information that any and all the digital media we use. We are living in a Garden of Eden in the sense that we are placated with a huge amount of free content for the chance for marketers to live in a garden of profit. As a marketer I like this, but I do agree with a sort of agreement of ‘where the line is.’

This has to have been one of my more fascinating talks to experience.

“What will a future without secrets look like?”

Thanks to MyTeducation for alerting me to this piece and to you for listening.

==> Wealth, Power, and Success

Photo: NorthForker.com
"So, how can you find more success, peace, and happiness in your life? You have to make a decision. The decision is whether to pursue your passion and enjoy it and be at peace with that path in life … even if you never make much money doing it."

Good Morning Folks,

What a beautiful fall, pumpkin picking weekend it was on Long Island.. amazing.. chilly, quiet, peaceful, and more.. a day full of inspiration and spirituality.

I was catching up on my reading file links this weekend and really liked this piece by ace copywriter Bob Bly. As Bob sees it, there are 6 factors responsible for any individual’s success or lack thereof, especially in business and wealth building.

They are:

==> Aptitude …
some people gravitate towards activities that make money (e.g., they are interested in investing or business) – while others are naturally attracted to fields that are less lucrative (e.g., poetry, pottery).

==> Hard work …
some people are willing to put in grueling hours to achieve great wealth and material abundance. Others are not willing to sacrifice their hours for dollars, and would rather spend their time in other ways, from playing golf to going camping with their kids.

==> Luck …
no matter how much of a technical genius or savvy businessman Bill Gates is, a lot of his success was largely the result of being in the right place at the right time.

==> Perseverance …
many rich and successful people got that way simply because they persisted vs. the vast majority who give up at the first roadblock or failure.

==> Brains …
being smart – either in the classic I.Q. smart or street smarts – is a decided advantage. And despite what our Constitution says, not all of us are born equal in this regard.

==> Talent …
no matter how much I want it or how much I train, there is no chance on Earth of me becoming the next American Idol – or even runner-up.

All of these factors obviously have a great effect on the course of your life. But of these, I believe aptitude is the most important – and unfortunately, the one least under our control. I mean: you like what you like.

You read about those guys on Wall Street with their million-dollar bonuses. And maybe you turn green with envy. But in your mind you know — and say to yourself — “Hey, that ain’t for me.”

The comforting old saying motivational speakers love to spout is that “if you pursue your passion, the money will come.” Sadly, this often isn’t true.

My friend SB pursued his passion as a poet for over 40 years. He had dozens of his poems published in magazines. But he is neither rich nor famous – although I believe (but don’t know for certain) that SB is pretty happy.

So, how can you find more success, peace, and happiness in your life? You have to make a decision. The decision is whether to pursue your passion and enjoy it and be at peace with that path in life … even if you never make much money doing it.

Or, you can decide that your primary goal is money; i.e., You want to be rich, and you are willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen – reasoning that once you are rich, then you can afford to indulge in your passions.

Which path have you chosen — and why?

Have a GREAT Day and LOVE Life!

Inspire ME Friday: Don Adams- "I Am A Champion"

Don Adams w/ Other FSO Champions
"I will acknowledge the fact that I am an elite warrior who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by any means at my disposal. I accept the fact that my team expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than our competitors . Never shall I fail my comrades. "

Good Morning Folks,

Get ready to be fired up today from Experience Director Don Adams, my selection for the best of the best internal posts to share. Don....
Good Morning and welcome to a brand new day at the happiest place on the plant. I thought I'd start the day with a simple question....are you a champion?

I will conquer what has never been conquered. Defeat will not be in my creed. I will believe where all those before me have doubted. I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor and respect of my team. I have trained my mind and now my body will follow!
==> WHO AM I? …. I AM A CHAMPION!!!
I will acknowledge the fact that I am an elite warrior who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by any means at my disposal. I accept the fact that my team expects me to move further, faster and fight harder than our competitors . Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be. One hundred percent and more.
==> WHO AM I? …. I AM A CHAMPION!!!
Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well trained warrior. My heart and my soul will be the fuel to carry my body when my limbs are to weary. I will never falter, I will never lose focus as long as there is hope in my mind and my heart still beats. I will never give in to the evil that is weakness and I will fight that evil with my dying breath.
==> WHO AM I? …. I AM A CHAMPION!!!
Energetically will I meet our competitors, no one will challenge me, none will stop me from my goal. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Champion's word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of our competitors and under no circumstances will I ever surrender.
==> WHO AM I? …. I AM A CHAMPION!!!
Readily will I display the discipline and strength required to fight on to my objective and I will complete my mission. I will rise when I fallen.  My competitors need not fear me but he will respect me and if he does not. I will make him respect me with all that I have to give.
==> WHO AM I? …. I AM A CHAMPION!!!
History will remember my name and he will not have to be kind. For I will have denied his criticisms and put in my own praise, No one will define me, no one will tell me what I can achieve, none will say I have not given all I have to give and none will take my glory.
WHO AM I? ….  I AM FSO/USA and FSO/USA is ME!!! .....Don
Neal Michael shared another fantastic email yesterday talking about our competitive differences and the lack of care for our new client from the haphazard way they maintained the space and cleanliness, to how they failed to provide any process improvement, innovation and can’t even think about what (re)IMAGINE looks or feels like. None of our competitors can and they just don’t get it.

More than the passion to care about ourselves and our client's welfare so deeply, it's all the happy, inspired people like Don Adams and Neal Michael who do a great job supporting us every day that have made FSO the unstoppable force in outsourcing. Thanks for all you do.

Be Inspired Today as I am and Make a Difference!!!!!!!

To fully enjoy your weekend let go of the working week. There are times to work, rest and play. Weekends are for all of the above but in a relaxing way.

Love Life!

How from the eighties till now our working instruments and habits are changed, visually, technologically and substantially.

Good Morning Folks,

Whether you like it or not, the fact is, we depend on technology more than you know. How has your desk evolved over the last 35 years? Do you still have that Rolodex in front of you? Probably not. What about that clunky dictionary, or the answering machine? Technology (and the cloud) has replaced most of our desktop items.

In this video produced by Harvard Innovation Lab, genuine vintage items were sought after and purchased in order to recreate the look and feel of an 80′s work desk.

Shout-out to the producer of the video, Best Reviews!

I want take this opportunity to thank you for what you do every day to make FSO GREAT!

If know of someone who would enjoy working for or with FSO please do not keep us a secret.

Have a Personal, Passionate & Productive Day!
